Shopping for Satellite Internet
Satellite Internet access is an option for broadband Internet, although it’s
generally recommended to those who either live in very rural or remote areas or
plan on installing it in a moving location, such as a ship at sea or an RV. I
wouldn’t recommend Satellite Internet if cable or DSL options are available to
you.
Most will agree that dial-up service is just far to slow. Especially with
all the high graphic content sites, downloads, streaming video on the net
today.
The most commonly used broadband connections are DSL and cable internet,
although some are unfortunate and neither are available at their location. The easiest
solution is satellite Internet Access. Since the satellites are high up in the
sky this service is available almost everywhere in the world.
Although, it’s important to know even though satellite Internet access is
considered broadband it’s not quite as fast compared to cable or DSL. The
latency of the connection is much slower due to the fact you are so far away
from the satellite in the sky, this will be very noticeable if you plan on
playing multiplayer games online. The longer latency delay will create a lag,
putting you at disadvantage compared to your competitors who are probably on
DSL or cable.
Satellite is also generally more expensive than a cable and DSL. The monthly
fees are usually just a little higher but the installation and equipment charge
to start can greatly exceed the cost of cable and dsl installation. So, this
may be worth it if Satellite is your only available option to broadband, but
otherwise go with a DSL or cable connection.
Often providers will either offer cash back rebates, which will help cover
those installation fees or offer much lower instillation charges at the price
of higher monthly fees.
Once you’ve decided if satellite is right for you, it’s time to shop. It’s
important to ask the cost of the setup, some providers will try to drag you in
by offering monthly fees lower than Cable or DSL. Usually they’ll offer no
rebates or savings on installation which could result in a bill of over 500
dollars. The best way of figuring out the cheapest possible deal is by asking
your self “How long do I plan on subscribing to satellite Internet?” than add
the installation fee and multiply that by the number of months you plan on
using it. Sometimes it’s cheaper to drop 500 dollars in installation and pay a
lower monthly fee, although it’s very important to make sure the lower monthly
fee will remain low, many providers will try to trick you by offering a lower
fee but for only a limited time.
Usually your options for providers are limited, but it’s worth shopping
around and gathering the prices of all providers possible.
Popular Satellite Providers

I have Hughesnet and I'm not really all that satisfied. If you download too much you can't use it for 24hrs.I have uplink and downlink problems on a dailly basis and for the most of the time it's not much faster than dial up.It does have some good points though but they don't justify the cost.
